COOP 2000/MEDS 2030C

This past spring, I continued to work for the University of Cincinnati's Learning Commons as a Learning Assistant for MEDS2030C - Biomedical Lab Techniques. In conjunction with that, I enrolled in COOP2000, which helped me develop very meaningful skills through this experience.

Reflection

I had a great experience continuing my role as a Learning Assistant for Biomedical Lab Techniques. Additionally, I enrolled in COOP2000 to continue the goal planning that the Coop courses structure so well. Through this experience, I was able to build on the skills that I developed in the fall. I was one of the Head Learning Assistants this spring, which put me in more of a leadership position than I had had in the fall. In this role, I helped integrate our new LAs into the teaching team, prepared and held lab practical review sessions for students, and assisted with lab prep. This was a very valuable experience as it required me to work closely with the Learning Commons, course faculty, graduate TAs, my fellow LAs, and, of course, the students.

COOP2000 allowed me to set aside time each week to focus on reflecting upon this experience. I was able to set goals for myself and follow up on them throughout the semester. This held me accountable throughout my busy semester. I was happy to be able to stay involved in teaching, which is something I have become passionate about. As I mentioned when reflecting upon my experience in the fall, I would love to integrate teaching in some regard into my future career. I plan to return to this position in the fall, and I am excited to resume my duties of the role!
