Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship
SURF Neuro was an amazing opportunity for me to grow as a scholar, student, and scientist. This program inspired me to continue in research, potentially even as a career long term.
One of the requirements for the SURF Neuro program was to submit weekly project reports to keep the program directors informed on what your tasks in the lab entailed. This experience taught me the skill of setting goals far in advance and tracking the steps to achieve those goals. This is a valuable skill that I will not only use in terms of research, but throughout all of my academic career.
SURF Neuro concluded with each member presenting their work from the summer. This was a great opportunity to share the project I had been working on, Axon Initial Segment Structure in a Genetic Model of Epilepsy, with other scientists in the same field. It was also interesting to learn what the other members had been researching over the summer. Overall, this was an incredible experience.
