Culminating Reflection
I found my time participating in the UHP Student Leader Roundtable to be extremely fruitful. Connecting with more experienced students gave me insight into how I can be a more effective leader. Additionally, discussing plans for the future with other first-year students was incredibly inspiring.
At the beginning of this experience, my goals were to develop my own leadership skills and connect with other Honors students. I went into this experience unsure of what to expect or what I would gain from it. Luckily, after the first meeting, I better understood and was excited to get talking about how I could better the student organizations I am involved in. Throughout my time in this small group, I truly believe that I learned valuable lessons from my peers and facilitator.
Coming out of this experience, I hope to take on more leadership positions and introduce the ideas we discussed during our roundtable to make organizations more inclusive. With this being only my first semester on campus, I am just now starting to get involved on campus. By taking my membership in these clubs seriously, I will show my interest and take on more responsibility to become a leader. Once I am in a position of leadership, I want to help make meetings more accessible. Whether this is by changing our meeting locations to a more accessible spot on campus or by adding close captions to online meetings, I want to help make this change. I believe that making this change would benefit these organizations and their members. It will also make meetings a more welcoming space for new people to join. When difficulties arise, I know that I can reach out to my fellow members of the UHP Roundtable and also the accessibility resources on campus. The students I met during my time in this program are great at collaboration and are so creative, so I know I will be able to find support and ideas from them. The accessibility resources on campus are professionals at implementing more inclusive ideas, so I will reach out to them for help as well. I hope to be able to look back in a year or two from now and see my student organizations as a more inclusive space with a growth in membership as a result.
